For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to write a book. Like a lot of writers, it's not something I do because it's a fun hobby like knitting or eating unreasonable amounts of cheese.
I write because I need to.
But, weird thing...
Books are long. Writing a book, even if you love it, is
not easy. Books & the stories they contain require care and feeding every. single. day.
I started writing a lot of long stories only to let them a die slow, sad death. I got so comfortable with the carnage, I wondered if I'd ever finish a book.
I decided to take the time I was spending wondering and make a modest, sensible rule for myself.
Eat less cheese.
Just kidding, that would be a stupid rule. No, I made writing a daily task, like brushing my teeth or feeding the children. 500 words a day, at least 5 days a week. In less than a year, I'd have a book.
In less than a year, I did.
